Took me 11 days to get a client's Google Ads account access back after a former employee left
A client in Portland had their ad account tied to a former manager's work email, and when he quit, nobody could get in. Turns out the recovery options all pointed to a phone number that was disconnected, so we had to file a support ticket and wait for Google to verify the business with documents. It took 11 days total, and we burned about $400 in paused ad spend while the campaign sat frozen. Am I the only one who thinks agencies should own every ad account login from day one, or do you let clients hold the keys?
That "recovery options all pointed to a phone number that was disconnected" part is the real killer. I have seen this happen to a couple of shops and it always comes down to a former employee's personal cell as the backup, so once they walk out the door your whole account is locked. Eleven days and $400 in dead spend is rough, but honestly it could have been way worse if it happened during a big promo push. Sorry you had to go through that mess.
