Pro tip: set client expectations for review timelines in writing
Last Thursday in Austin, I wrapped a homepage redesign for a local restaurant. The owner loved the mockups, then asked for a same-week review cycle so he could show investors by Friday. I said sure, thinking it was just copy tweaks. He sent back a list of 40 changes, half of which changed the layout and one required rebuilding the menu section from scratch. I stayed up two nights and barely hit his deadline, but the final site had three sections I would have done differently if I'd pushed back. Now I put a line in every contract saying reviews take 5 business days minimum, and I ask clients to list any layout changes before we start. Has anyone else had a client who treated a visual refresh like a quick edit? How do you handle scope creep when they insist on a hard date?
