Tried running a DT466 on straight veggie oil, engine died in 45 miles near Boise

Honestly, everyone swore by the WMO blend but I wanted to see if filtered canola would work by itself. Pump died around mile 42 on I-84, injectors were sticky after I got it towed to a shop in Boise. The cost to clean the system ran me $1,100, way more than diesel would've been. Learned that conversion kits aren't a free pass, anyone else burn a motor doing this or am I the only fool?
