Was charged $1,200 for a 'preventive maintenance' visit that fixed nothing

Last Tuesday a commercial HVAC crew from a Southfield outfit came to my office building on Grand River Ave, they did a 20 minute walk around and handed me a bill for $1,200. No filters changed, no readings taken, they just said everything looked fine and left. Has anyone else had a service company in Detroit charge for a full visit but clearly do almost nothing, or am I the only one getting burned here?

Wait, did they at least use a fancy flashlight to look at stuff while they walked around? I mean, for $1,200 you'd think they'd throw in a free stick of gum or a branded pen or something. Sounds like they charged you the "we showed up and you paid us" premium. Maybe next time ask if they can just mail you the bill and skip the walk entirely, save everyone the effort. At this rate, I'm surprised they didn't charge extra for breathing the air in your building.
