The cheapest bidder on the Jefferson Ave roof job cost me $600 more
I heard a guy at the Parts Galore counter bragging about landing a $2,400 roof patch for a fraction of my quote, and it got me thinking about how we all chase the low number. He didn't mention the follow-up call two days later about the leak shifting to the east corner, which my crew fixed for that extra $600. Has anyone else dealt with clients who act like the cheapest invoice is the best deal until the water starts dripping again?

Did you ever get burned by the low bid and then have to eat the cost of fixing it yourself? I used to think saving money upfront was always the smart play, but then I hired a guy to redo my garage floor for half the price of the next quote. He left the old coating on, and it peeled up within a month. I ended up paying a second crew to strip it all down and start over, which cost way more than that original higher bid would have. Now I ask for their plan and what happens if it fails, not just the number. So, how do you explain that to a client without sounding like you’re just padding your own pockets?
