Hotel front desk gave out my room number to a stranger

Stayed at a Marriott in Phoenix last weekend for a work thing. Checked in, went to grab dinner, and when I came back the front desk told me someone asked for my room number and they just gave it out. No call to my room first or anything. I get that people forget keys but that felt super sketchy. Is this a common thing hotels do, or should I be raising hell with corporate about their policy?

Yeah that’s not normal at all and honestly a little scary. You were right to be bothered, I’d be pissed too if my room number got handed out like that.
