Self-checkout vs. real cashier, which one actually treats you better?
I hit two different stores in the same week, one in Austin and one in Dallas. At the first place, self-checkout flagged me for 'unexpected item' three times in a row, and the one employee watching four stations just sighed and walked over to fix it. At the second store, a cashier named Debra saw I had a torn coupon, manually typed it in, and even joked about my weird snack combo. Same basic transaction, totally different vibe. Is it just me, or do self-checkout machines make you do all the work AND still feel like you're being accused of stealing? But then again, the line for a real cashier took 15 minutes compared to 5 at the kiosk. Which side are you on when it comes to speed versus actual human decency? Have any of you had a self-checkout machine that was surprisingly helpful, or a cashier that made you wish you'd just used the machine?
