Warning: my "simple" 3-act story plan for my writing group turned into 9 hours of rewrites
I sat down last Saturday at my kitchen table in Boise to outline a short 3-act story for my writing group's weekly prompt, and I figured it would take maybe 90 minutes tops. Nine hours later I was still stuck on act two because my character kept doing things that made no sense with the ending I already picked, and I realized my outline was basically a list of stuff I wanted to happen, not a real cause and effect chain. Does anyone else here write the ending first and then get trapped by it, or do you plot forward and just fix it later?
