Warning: I wrote 200 word prompts that were really 3 prompts mashed together
I have been running a small prompt swap with two friends from my Tuesday library group in Dayton for about 8 months now. Last month one of them handed my prompt back with a note that said "which one of these three stories do you actually want?" That stung because she was right. I was cramming a character, a setting, and a plot twist into 200 words, so nobody could pick a lane and actually write. I went back through my old prompts and counted 14 out of 20 that had at least two totally different story ideas stacked on top of each other. Now I write one prompt, one clear situation, and one thing that has to happen, which feels bare but people actually write from it. Has anyone else had a swap partner call out their prompts for doing too much at once?
