TIL my villain origin story ruined a writing prompt thread

I posted a prompt about a hero who steals memories and someone replied saying it was just a recycled plot from a 2013 novel, so I checked and yeah, it basically was. Now I'm stuck on whether original ideas are even real or if we're all just reshaping the same 20 stories with different names. Do you ever scrap a prompt after finding out it's been done, or do you lean into the overlap and make it your own spin?
