Shoutout to the sticky note rule I stole from a library workshop in Boise
I keep seeing prompts with like 9 characters and 4 subplots crammed in, and they read like a grocery list instead of a story. A writing teacher at a workshop in Boise told me to put every prompt idea on a sticky note and only keep the ones I can explain in one sentence out loud, no pauses. I've been doing that for about 2 months now and my drafts actually get finished instead of piling up half done. How do you all trim your prompts down without killing the weird parts?
