Rigging cable frayed overnight, caught it before first lift in Tulsa

I greased everything last Friday and the cable looked fine, then Monday morning I saw a broken strand near the drum, just one but it was fresh. Must have been a crush from the last drop we did that flexed the wire unevenly. I snapped a photo and sent it to my foreman, he said he's seen that exact pattern snap on a 60 ton pick before. Anyone else run into a cable that frays overnight like that or was it just a bad batch from the supplier?
