Debate: Should we skip the tagline check on smaller lifts or stick to the book?
I found that skipping the tagline on a 2-ton beam in an open lot saved me 15 minutes and nothing went wrong. But a buddy swears I'm setting a bad habit and that one day it'll bite me. Do you think there's a weight or situation where ditching the tagline is actually fine?

lol yeah I've totally done the same thing with a small beam in an empty lot and felt like a genius for saving time. But honestly I think the real problem is that one time you skip it and Murphy's Law kicks in hard. I've had a tagline save my ass on what I thought was a routine pick just because the wind decided to act up out of nowhere. So yeah you're probably fine 99 times out of 100 but that 100th time is gonna be a story you tell at safety meetings for years.
