Lost $350 on a hair extension certification I never needed
Back in March I paid $350 for a weekend extension certification course. The instructor talked a big game about how clients would line up for me once I had that certificate on the wall. I did the mannequin work, passed the test, hung the paper. Six months later, zero clients have asked about it. Not one. What actually got me clients was posting before and after photos on Instagram and doing free trims for friends of friends. The certification taught me nothing I couldnt learn from two YouTube videos and a cheap practice head. I called the school asking for a refund and they pointed to the fine print. Has anyone else dropped money on a course or cert that turned out to be useless for their actual business?

... and honestly my friend dropped almost the same amount on a makeup cert and the only thing it was good for was impressing her mom. She said the real money maker was just doing her friends' prom makeup and tagging everyone in the photos. The school even tried to upsell her on a "master class" after she complained, which felt super scammy.
