My brother called my favorite childhood snack 'soggy cardboard' a few months back

I mean, I used to love eating plain saltine crackers with a glass of milk, but his comment made me try them with peanut butter instead. Anyone else have a snack memory that got ruined by a simple critique?

My buddy used to swear by dipping plain potato chips in ketchup. His wife made a face one night and called it "fancy french fry failure." He hasn't touched the combo since, says he just sees her wrinkling her nose every time. Funny how one offhand comment can rewire a whole memory like that. Your peanut butter switch was a solid recovery move, though.

That "rewire a whole memory" line really hits home. I had a favorite old band tee that my partner quietly called my "dad at a barbecue" shirt once. Now I can't put it on without hearing that, and it just hangs in the closet. Those little comments stick like glue.
