I was at a friend's wedding in Cleveland and they served the cake with a side of potato chips.

I mean, everyone around me was dipping their cake into the chip bag like it was normal. I tried it, idk, maybe it's just me but the salty crunch with the sweet frosting was actually amazing. It's been six months and now I keep a bag of plain chips next to my dessert plate. Has anyone else had a weird food combo that just clicked for them out of nowhere?

Honestly, that commitment sounds pretty normal to me once you find a combo that works. Like, I started putting a little sea salt on my chocolate ice cream and now I just keep the shaker on the table. It’s not a party trick, it’s just how you like to eat your dessert. Running out of chips would be a bummer, same as running out of milk for your cereal.

Totally get keeping the shaker on the table. It stops being a weird thing and just becomes YOUR way. Like how I keep hot sauce in my glove box now, because you never know when some bland fries need saving. Once a combo clicks, it's not a choice anymore, it's just how things are. Running out of your thing feels like the whole meal is broken.

Cleveland weddings must be a different kind of event. I get the sweet and salty thing, but is it really worth keeping a dedicated chip bag next to your dessert plate for six months straight? That feels like a whole new level of commitment to a party trick. What happens when you run out of chips, do you just stare sadly at your brownie? Maybe it’s good but is it a lifestyle?
