My old foreman in Tulsa told me to stop trusting my tape measure for layout, and after 2 crooked walls I finally get it
He pulled me aside on a Friday afternoon and said the tape hook wears down about a 16th of an inch after a few hundred pulls, and that adds up when you're burning a 40 foot chalk line. I blew him off for about 6 months until I had to redo two interior walls on a job in Broken Arrow, which cost me a full day and probably $300 in material and time. Now I burn everything off one reference point and only measure with a tape when I have to, and my layouts have been dead on since. Anyone else got a cheap habit that saves you from a way worse mistake down the road?
