Lasered a foundation layout 6 inches off because I forgot to calibrate
Last Tuesday I was setting up a new job site in Austin with our robotic total station. Spent 30 minutes marking corners before I realized the compensation was turned off and everything was tilted. Has anyone else had a calibration mistake cost them a whole morning?

Man that is a BRUTAL way to lose a morning. I totally get the sinking feeling when you realize all that work was for nothing. Had something similar happen with a laser level on a big fence job a few years back. I set it up on a tripod and just ASSUMED it was level cause it looked plumb to my eye. Spent two hours marking post holes before a buddy walks over and points out the bubble was barely touching the line. Every single post ended up tilted back at a weird angle. Had to dig them all up and start over. The worst part was I had done that same job a dozen times before, but I got cocky and skipped the 10 second calibration check. Now I ALWAYS double check that thing before I mark a single thing. Hope your foundation layout gets fixed easier than my fence did.
