Unpopular opinion: my uncle's rant about fluoride at Thanksgiving made me look up water treatment for real
So my uncle Bill, who lives in Phoenix, went on a 20 minute thing at Thanksgiving about fluoride in our tap water and how it's some government mind control plot. I always rolled my eyes at him but this time my cousin who works at a water plant in Mesa actually sat down with me after dinner and walked me through what she does all day. She pulled up the actual treatment steps on her phone and showed me how they test for like 90 different things every single day, chlorine, lead, bacteria, all of it. She said the fluoride levels are checked constantly and that the dose is way lower than what you'd get in toothpaste. I still don't totally trust every government agency but now I get why the conspiracy stuff bugs her so much, she said her plant had 3 violations last year and all of them were tiny paperwork errors, not poison. It made me think about how we pick which things to question and which things we just accept. Has anyone here actually toured a local water facility or sat down with someone who works in it?
