My old IDE cable finally gave up after 14 years in a Dell

Pulled a 2003 Dimension out of storage last weekend for a data recovery job and the ribbon cable just crumbled when I touched it. I spent 2 hours hunting around Portland for a replacement before a buddy found one in his junk drawer, has anyone else had old hardware literally fall apart on them this year?
