Took a crane load swinging into a glass curtain wall to change my safety stance
I used to think harness checks were just paperwork, until last month on a 12-story job in Austin. A rigger misread the load chart and the steel beam swung maybe 15 feet off path, clipped a floor slab, and sent two guys scrambling. Nobody got hurt, but the foreman made all of us watch the site drone footage that night, and seeing that beam twist in slow motion flipped something for me. Now I personally inspect every shackle and tag line before the lift starts, even if it slows us down. Anyone else had a near-miss that made you ditch the lazy habits?
