The old super at the Riverside job asked why I kept setting my sill plates off the snap line
Two years back I was framing a 3 story office shell in Columbus and the super on the job, a guy named Ray with 30 years in, watched me snap my sill plate line for about 10 minutes and then just asked me why I never checked the corner square before laying out. I told him the square was fine, but he pulled the tape and showed me we were 3/8 out across 40 feet, which threw off every stud bay on the wall. I came back after lunch with a transit and reset the whole corner. Now I check the diagonal on every corner before I snap a line, even on small jobs. Anyone else have a guy call out one step they had been skipping for years?
