Did everyone know about slab recesses but me, or did I miss something

I ran a tilt-up job in Denver for 18 months, then got called out by an inspector who asked why I wasn't locating the door recesses before pouring. He showed me the plan set, pointed at the embedded details, and I realized I'd been letting the framers cut into cured concrete after the pour, which added days and extra patching costs on every single build. Now I prep the recess forms during layout, but I wonder how many other guys learned this the hard way instead of from a GC or mentor. Was this obvious to you folks, or did you also discover it after eating the schedule hit?
