Can we talk about how much easier it is to run conduit in steel studs instead of wood?
We framed a 12,000 sq ft office buildout in Denver last month and half the walls were metal studs with pre-punched holes so the runs went in fast, but the wood-framed section took nearly twice as long because every hole had to be bored and lined up by hand. I bid both sections the same square footage rate and got killed on the wood side, lost about $1,800 in labor on that part alone. Does anyone else price metal and wood framing differently, or am I just bad at math?
That $1,800 hit on the wood side sounds about right from what I've seen. Punching holes in metal studs goes quick, but boring and lining up every hole in wood eats up hours you can't get back. We started adding a labor bump on the wood-framed bids after getting burned the same way.
