My comic shop guy in Austin swore the movie ruined the books, and I finally asked him why
Three weeks ago I was digging through the dollar bins at a shop off South Congress and the owner told me he lost half his regulars after the first big Marvel movie hit in 2008, saying they never came back for the actual stories. I get his side, new faces filled his store but most just wanted the same panel they already saw on screen, but my buddy says that gatekeeping take is why shops keep dying. So which is it, did the movies bring more fans in than they pushed out, or is that just something old heads tell themselves?
