The latte art obsession is making people forget the actual taste

Ngl, I've been in this coffee group for a while and I keep seeing posts about rosettas and tulips, but half those people are pulling bitter shots. I did a blind taste test at a shop in Austin last month, 12 drinks, and the one with the prettiest art ranked 9th on flavor. Why does the visual matter more than the crema or the bean origin at 205 degrees? Has anyone else noticed this swing, or am I just being salty about my plain pour over?

Stopped ordering anything with fancy foam after I got burned one too many times, so I just tell the barista to skip the art and pour it straight. That way I actually taste the beans and not the show. Maybe the pretty stuff is for the camera, but my mug tastes way better without it.
