That $60 cold brew maker I bought is collecting dust on my shelf

Bought a fancy cold brew system from a local shop in Portland last month, thinking it'd save me money over cafe iced coffee. Turns out a mason jar and cheesecloth works just as well for a fraction of the cost. Anyone else regret splurging on single-use gear?

The whole "buy once cry once" logic falls apart when you realize how many kitchen gadgets are just solving problems that don't exist. I went through a similar thing with a fancy espresso machine that was supposed to pay for itself over time. Ended up using it maybe a dozen times before I realized a simple Aeropress makes a fine cup with way less fuss and cleanup. That Portland shop likely sold you on the idea of convenience, but the real convenience is not having another bulky appliance taking up counter space.

Youre saying the Aeropress makes a fine cup but thats a big compromise if you actually care about real espresso. The whole buy once cry once logic isnt about solving fake problems, its about not wasting money on cheap stuff that youll replace twice before getting the real thing. That espresso machine probably made way better coffee than any Aeropress can, you just didnt give it enough time to learn the routine. And counter space? Come on, you make room for the things you actually use. Sounds like you just talked yourself out of learning a skill and settled for something thats good enough instead of great.
