French press exploded on me this morning, 3 cups of coffee ruined

I was at my kitchen counter in Portland at 6:30am, pressing down on my 8-cup French press like I do every day, and the glass just shattered. Hot coffee and grounds went everywhere, all over my counter, the floor, and my work shirt. I ended up using my backup pour-over setup, but it reminded me to check the glass for cracks before each use, especially if you've ever knocked it around. Has anyone else had a press break on them suddenly, or am I just unlucky?

Man, I used to think those things were bulletproof but now I get why people check them first!
