That week everything went sideways on a simple aluminum job
Ran a basic 6061 part last Tuesday, nothing fancy, 40 pieces. Halfway through the third one, the tool holder started screaming and I found a hairline crack in the spindle housing. Had to stop, call the boss, and we lost 6 hours waiting for a rental machine from a shop in Dayton. Then the replacement code had a typo on the depth pass, scrapped 12 parts before I caught it. Cost me a full weekend of overtime and a talking to, but I learned to triple check my G-code even on routine jobs. Anyone else have a simple job turn into a nightmare out of nowhere?

Man, that's brutal. But here's the thing I gotta ask: how many hours you got on that machine total? Because a hairline crack in the spindle housing on a routine 6061 job smells like a fatigue issue that was already brewing, not something that just popped out of nowhere. I've seen guys run machines way past their service life and blame the aluminum when the real culprit was 10,000 hours of hard use. Did the boss ever say anything about a recent inspection or oil sample that came back weird?
