Can we talk about how I stopped trusting my edge finder and started touching off with a cigarette paper?
I picked up a pack of rolling papers at the Speedway on my way into the shop Tuesday because an old timer named Ray kept saying paper beats any electronic edge finder for picking up a face. I touched off on a 1018 block for a facing op and the paper gave me a feel I never got from the LED light, maybe half a thou repeatable. I ran 12 parts that shift and every one landed inside a .001 window, which almost never happens with the finder on that old Bridgeport. Now the finder sits in the drawer and the papers sit in my box. What do you guys use to touch off edges when the spindle has a little runout?
