Our block's rain barrel swap cut my water bill by a third

Back in 2019 I set up two 55 gallon barrels under my downspouts in Portland. First summer I barely used them cause I forgot they were there. Then I wired a cheap timer to a drip line off the barrels and ran it early mornings. Last July my water bill was $68 compared to $102 the year before. Neighbor saw it and we did a group buy for 6 more barrels last spring. Anyone else found an easy setup that actually pays off without a fancy system?

Guess the rain barrel paid for itself faster than the drip line paid for my patience with that cheap timer. Took me three weekends to stop watering the sidewalk instead of the tomatoes.
