Just realized my rain barrel setup was doing more harm than good

I took out both barrels last weekend and now I'm looking at a proper dry well system instead. What kind of setup are you all using to avoid this?

@riley_coleman8 sounds like you went through the whole learning curve too, but isn't it weird how good intentions in our homes always seem to backfire first before they work? It's like every DIY project has to humble us before it actually helps.

Oh man, that hits home lol. I had a similar moment last spring when I realized my rain barrel setup was basically just a mosquito breeding ground with some bonus algae growth. I thought I was being all eco-friendly but really I was just making a swamp for the local bugs. I ended up switching to a dry well too but I screwed it up so bad the first time the water just pooled on top of the ground instead of soaking in. Took me three weekends to get it right and I still have nightmares about digging that hole in the clay soil. Good luck with your upgrade though, at least you caught it before your yard turned into a bog like mine did lmao.
