Showerthought: cleaning 300 flues this season made me admit my wire brush was holding me back
I just logged my 300th flue cleaning since March and the number caught me off guard because it did not feel like that many. Around flue 150 I noticed my arms were toast by mid afternoon, so on a hunch I tried a rotary whip on a drill for the clay liners at a job in Rochester. It knocked out a creosote glaze in 20 minutes that used to eat 40 with the old brush and rod. Made me realize I was clinging to hand brushing out of pride, not because it worked better. Anyone else switch to a rotary setup and regret not doing it sooner?
