The self-checkout scale keeps getting fooled by produce stickers

I watched three people in a row at the Safeway on 12th Street this morning put a bag of apples on the scale without removing the PLU sticker from the first apple. The machine read the weight wrong and flagged the whole transaction, so each of them had to wait for an employee to come clear the error. If you peel the sticker off before you weigh your produce, it saves yourself the hold up and the person behind you gets moving faster. I run a repair shop so I know these scales are sensitive to any extra weight or surface change, that little sticker throws them off every single time. Has anyone else noticed this messing up the line or is it just my store?

Next up on the show, weighing fruit with a sticky note attached. Maybe they think the scale gives a discount for it.
