DAE count their cart items before the cashier scans, I hit 47 last Saturday
I have this habit of tallying everything in my cart while I wait, mostly to pass the time and guess the total before it shows up on the screen. Last Saturday at the Kroger on Fairfax, I counted 47 items in my cart, which was a personal record and honestly a little embarrassing since I live alone. The reason it mattered is I had set a hard budget of $85 for the trip, and I was sure that many items would blow right past it. Watching the register climb, I started doing mental math and figured I was toast somewhere around item 30. When the total came up, it was $83.12, and I stood there genuinely stunned for a second. The cashier asked if I was okay because I guess my face did something weird. Has anyone else ever nailed their guess that close, or am I the only one playing this game in line?
