My backup drive failed in Nashville, now I preach the 3-2-1 rule

I had a 4TB external drive with 7 years of client photos and invoices, and it just clicked and died last Tuesday with zero warning. I kept telling myself one copy was fine because I was lazy and never set up the cloud backup I kept adding to my to-do list. The recovery shop quoted me $1,800 to even attempt data rescue, which I can't afford, so I lost a ton of irreplaceable work. I switched my whole stance on redundancy that night, not because I read a blog post but because I watched my livelihood vanish in a second. Now I run two local backups and one offsite sync every Sunday, and I test the restore function monthly, which sounds boring but beats crying. Has anyone else lost a drive and found a cheap recovery route that actually worked, or am I just stuck with the lesson?
