TIL a finish carpenter named Dale in Fargo showed me his 30 year old framing square and I finally get why he never bought a new one
I was helping him layout a set of stairs at a job in Moorhead and he pulled out this square with numbers scratched into it and a chunk missing from the corner. He said he dropped it off a scaffold in 1994 and filed the burr down himself, and it still cuts a cleaner line than the two I've bought since. He told me 'a square earns its marks' and I've been thinking about that all week. Anyone else still running a tool older than their truck?
