Shoutout to the framers who still use a proper story pole
I mean, I see so many crews just marking each stud location with a tape measure on every single plate. It's slower and way more prone to error, especially on a long wall. We were framing a 40-foot garage wall last week and the lead guy pulled out this old, notched 2x4 from his truck. Had the whole thing laid out in maybe two minutes flat. Does anyone still teach this method to apprentices, or is it all digital now?

That's the real test of a good carpenter. Do you think the skill gets lost because it's not as flashy as running a laser or layout app?

Eh, maybe a little? But @oliver_fisher, it's not like the old ways just vanish. Someone's still gotta know how to do it when the battery dies.

Batteries dying on a laser level is rare though, most of them run for days on a charge.
