My Jetboil exploded coffee all over a ranger station in Yosemite

Last month I was at Tuolumne Meadows and my old Jetboil's valve seized up. I shook it to check fuel, bad move. The whole thing blew steam and scalding coffee across the picnic table, straight onto a ranger's boot. He just looked at me and said, "That's a new one, sir." I spent 20 minutes cleaning grounds out of my fleece and my cook kit. Turns out the o-ring had dry rotted after 6 years of heavy use. Now I check the seal before every trip and carry a cheap backup stove. Has anyone else had a pressurized stove fail randomly like that?
