Guy at the REI in Boise told me to weigh my whole pack before buying anything new
I was at the REI in Boise last weekend returning a stove that didn't work out, and the guy at the counter asked what else was in my pack. I told him I was shopping for a lighter tent, and he said to go home and weigh every single thing first, even the stuff I never think about. I did it that night and found out my "light" setup was 31 pounds, mostly from a 4 pound sleeping bag and a bunch of little stuff sacks I didn't need. He was right that a $300 tent wouldn't fix a problem I could solve for free by leaving stuff at home. Anyone else do a full pack weigh in and get surprised by what was actually heavy?
