That 1/4 inch reveal on drawer fronts is not what most people think it is
I keep seeing guys at the shop measure a drawer front reveal from the edge of the opening to the edge of the face, and that is not the number you want when you are setting gaps. You want the gap from the face edge to the cabinet face frame edge, which is a different spot entirely, and mixing them up is how you end up with 1/4 inch on the top and 3/16 on the sides on the same bank of drawers. I learned this the hard way about 6 months ago on a maple kitchen out in Springfield, cut all five fronts off one measurement, and the homeowner spotted the uneven gaps before I even got the last screw in. Took me a whole Saturday to trim them down and refinish the edges. The fix for me was a cheap feeler gauge set, 6 bucks at the hardware store, and I check every front against the actual face frame now instead of trusting my tape. Also write the number on the back of each front with a pencil so my helper and me are not guessing. Has anyone else got a trick for keeping those reveals even across a long run of drawers?
