My shop's weekend work policy has me and my coworkers divided
I work at a mid-sized cabinet shop, and recently management introduced a policy requiring all staff to work every other weekend without overtime pay. They argue it's necessary to meet client deadlines and keep costs down. Some of my teammates support this, saying it shows commitment and helps the business grow. Others, including me, feel it's exploitative and hurts our personal lives. Where do you stand on mandatory unpaid weekends in cabinetmaking?

That's a straight-up scam dressed as company loyalty. Working weekends without overtime pay just lets management squeeze more hours out of you for free. Calling it 'commitment' is a cheap way to guilt trip people into accepting worse conditions. Your personal time has value, and giving it up for nothing hurts everyone in the long run. If they need more work done, they should hire extra staff or pay proper overtime.

But what if that weekend work leads to a promotion later? Sometimes putting in extra time shows you're serious about moving up.
