Guy at the lumber yard in Tacoma said poplar would be fine for painted doors, now I'm remaking 6 of them
He swore it sands out smoother than maple and holds paint just as well, but every one of these doors has dents showing through after two coats. What are you all using for paint grade doors that won't telegraph every little bump?

Poplar's just soft, man. That's not a paint problem.
