My sister saw my bullet journal and called it a 'waste of time'
We were at her house in Austin last month, and I was setting up my weekly spread. She looked over my shoulder and said, 'Why do you spend hours drawing boxes when you could just use a phone app?' It really got to me because I use my journal to manage my anxiety, not just my schedule. Has anyone else had to defend their journaling to friends or family?

My brother said the same thing until he saw how much calmer I got after writing things down. The physical act just works differently for some people.

My old roommate used to watch me fill a whole notebook in a week and just didn't get it. I mean, typing notes for work does nothing for me, but putting a pen on paper just slows my brain down in a way nothing else can. It's like the noise in my head has to follow the speed of my hand. Idk, maybe it's just me but that physical thing makes all the difference for feeling settled.

Did you tell her it helps with your anxiety? Sometimes people only see the drawings and miss the whole point of why you do it. They think it's just for looks. My mom used to say the same thing until I explained it was like my brain's off switch.
