Why does nobody mention the $200 surprise when you switch car insurance mid-policy?
I switched insurers in November to save $40 a month and got hit with a $200 cancellation fee I never saw coming. That wiped out 5 months of the savings, so now I read the fine print before I switch anything. Has anyone found a company that doesn't pull this?
That "$200 cancellation fee" thing is the same trick as gym memberships and phone plans, where the real cost is hidden in the exit not the entry. Companies know most people shop by the monthly number and never ask what leaving costs, so they make quitting expensive on purpose. Reading the fine print first is honestly the only move that works, since the cheap rate is usually just bait.
