The $14 spiralizer that turned my zucchini into a sad, wet mess

I finally gave in last month and bought one of those handheld spiralizers at the grocery store. It was supposed to save me money by making veggie noodles at home. Instead, I got two soggy piles of mush and a bruised thumb before I threw it in the drawer. A single zucchini cost me $1.50, but the time and frustration was way more than that. I could have just bought a cheap veggie peeler for $3 and made ribbons with way less hassle. Has anyone else fallen for a kitchen gadget that sounded budget friendly but ended up being a total waste? What should I actually use for zucchini noodles instead?
