My neighbor's $1.50 lentil trick made me rethink my whole grocery list

I was talking to Mrs. Delgado from across the hall last Tuesday about how my protein budget was wrecking me, and she just shrugged and said she feeds her family of four on lentils and eggs for less than twenty bucks a week. I always figured beans meant chili or boring soup, but she showed me how she soaks them overnight and tosses them in everything from tacos to breakfast bowls. It hit different because I'd spent like fourteen dollars on a single pack of chicken breasts that same morning, and hers lasted three meals. Anybody else got a cheap staple that quietly does way more work than you give it credit for?
