My dad's depression-era cooking hacks still hold up today

He showed me how to make a big pot of soup from scraps and leftovers. It's legit amazing and costs next to nothing. He uses veggie peels, bones, and stale bread to stretch meals. Anyone have old family tricks like this? I wanna learn more frugal recipes.

Honestly, we don't need to eat scraps these days.

My grandma used to save pickle juice to reuse (sounds weird but it makes a mean marinade). That whole generation just knew how to make things last forever.

Oh man, my buddy tried that once. He boiled eggs in old pickle juice and said they tasted like regret.
