Talked to a bee keeper at the farmers market, now I want to keep my own hive
So last Saturday I was grabbing some honey at the little stand near the park entrance, and this older guy starts telling me about his 14 hives and how he can tell what flowers his bees visited just by the color of the comb. He said he spends maybe 20 minutes a day on them but the real work is just watching, like sitting in a chair and sipping coffee while they do their thing. That hit different because I always thought it was all heavy lifting and getting stung, but he made it sound almost meditative. I ended up buying his book and a beginner smoker for $35, and I've been watching YouTube videos at midnight for a week straight. Has anyone else started a hobby because one stranger made it sound way less scary than you imagined? What was the actual learning curve like for your first season?

Hooking that first hive will teach you more than all those videos combined.
