Collecting endangered species for hobbyists crosses a line for me
Most plant lovers I meet think it's fine to pick wild flowers. I say it's not right because it hurts the ecosystem. Last spring, I found a clearing where all the jack-in-the-pulpits had been dug up.

Yeah, it's a real shame because that kind of thing can wipe out a whole patch for years. Takes so long for those plants to come back, if they ever do.

In the wetlands by my house, jack-in-the-pulpits popped back up after a drought in just one season. People often say they're fragile, but from what I've seen, they're pretty tough. Their roots store energy underground, so even if the tops die, they can regrow. Maybe we're overreacting to a temporary set back.
